Our Story
Designed for Dogs. Inspired by Real Life.
Wagwear was founded in 1998 by Amy Harlow with a simple idea: dog products should be as thoughtfully designed as the products we choose for ourselves.
After adopting six-week-old twin Shiba Inus, Lucy and Tonto, Amy quickly discovered that most pet products fell into one of two categories—they were either functional or fashionable, but rarely both. As a lifelong dog lover with a background in fashion, she set out to create something different.
The result was wagwear.
From the beginning, the brand blended classic American style with practical utility, creating products that felt equally at home on the beaches of Cape Cod, the sidewalks of New York City, and everywhere in between. Durable canvas, climbing rope, reflective details, and timeless color palettes became signatures of the collection.
First New York City, Then Beyond
In 2006, Wagwear opened its first flagship store in the heart of Greenwich Village, establishing a destination for dog owners seeking thoughtfully designed products that balanced form and function.
Over the years, the collection expanded to include carriers, leashes, collars, coats, beds, bowls, and accessories—each designed with the belief that life with dogs should be both beautiful and practical.
In 2017, Amy and her family relocated to Woodstock, New York, where the surrounding mountains, trails, and seasons became a new source of inspiration for the brand.
The Birth of WagWellies
While living in Woodstock, Amy became increasingly focused on a problem she saw repeated by dog owners everywhere: protecting paws from harsh conditions without sacrificing comfort or style.
After years of development and testing, Wagwear introduced the Original WagWellies in 2018.
In 2021, the company launched WagWellies Mojave, a lightweight dog boot designed specifically to protect paws from hot pavement and summer surfaces. Combining functional performance with a clean, modern design, Mojave quickly became a favorite among dog owners and helped introduce Wagwear to a global audience.
Today
More than two decades after its founding, Wagwear remains independently owned and founder-led.
From its beginnings in New York City to its current home in Woodstock, the company continues to design products that help dogs and their people explore the world together.
Because great design shouldn't stop at the end of the leash.
